13th November 2011 - The Animals' War Memorial, Park Lane, London

 

On Sunday 13th November 2011 - Remembrance Sunday, ASWA held its first Remembrance Service for Animals at the Animals' War Memorial in Park Lane, London.  There have of course been other services remembering the animals who served in war held at this wonderful Memorial (Animal Aid hold one every year on Armistice Day itself) but this was the first time ASWA had held its own service.

 

Though we were few in number, enough were gathered to make it feel like a proper service.  We were also joined by a friendly Staffie and her owner. ASWA Committee member - Revd George Ochola celebrated and gave a short address.  We sang hymns and observed a 2 minute silence.  The rain stayed away.

 

We plan to make this an annual event - so please join us this year on Sunday 11th November 2012 at 3.00pm.  We decided to hold it in the afternoon so that those of our members with loved ones in the forces are able to go to both the Service at the Cenotaph in the morning (or at their own churches) and still attend the service for animals in the afternoon.
